The Big Reveal!

So, it's on to the big reveal I promised last week. The cover of Book 3 in the Alien Encounters Series, Going Back has been finalized. I did an interview with Robert J. Graham a few weeks ago. I enjoyed the interview with Robert J. Graham and supported his facebook post by providing a reveal there first, but I wanted to show you now, so here's the new cover. I'd love to hear what you think....

My editor and I had some back and forth dialogue about this cover, since I wanted to get her opinion on the matter. After she saw it she asked me why I chose this cover. To paraphrase my thoughts, I wanted to invite the reader into this world and invoke some mystery in the process. The cave image fits this story. I feel any good cover should fit the story, while at the same time inviting the reader to engage with the story beyond the front cover. This cover was designed with those two purposes in mind. Please post a comment good or bad, I'd love to know your thoughts/opinions on this or any of my eBook covers.

My editor, Keiti, also commented on how I'd set each book in a different place. Going Back is Lyrissa's story, so we're back on Earth and in a different location so the reader gets a broader sense of what life is like other than in those places I'd introduced in book 1. We travel to New MontrĂ©al, the capital and a few other places along the way. Given that each novella/eBook is a serial of a larger story arc, I wanted to tease out different settings on both Sylax and Earth with each installment. In Going Back I've done my best (and am still doing, since we're going through final edits), to paint a more vivid picture of a dystopian future on Earth.

Keiti's been a huge help to me. If you want to know more about Keiti you can find her at the Raven's Chamber. She may pop by if she has time.

The big reveal is so important to me I want to leave if up for at least 2 weeks, and would love to know what you think!

You can find me through the week at kimwelsman.ca or on twitter @kimwelsman. I have a cool new trailer on my website and hope you have time to check it out.

  1. The cover makes me think of Mars, but that may be more of how I imagine Mars in my head (dry, red, dusty) than how Mars really is. I can see how it could also portray a dystopian Earth. Sometimes when I drive through very dry and uninhabited parts of the US (like stretches of Utah), I feel a little bit like the last person left on Earth.

  2. Hi Mandy,

Thanks so much for taking the time to comment on my blog. Sorry it's taken me this long to get back, I've been quite ill lately. It's really neat you mentioned uninhabited parts of the US. I believe this pic was taken in an area of caves in Arizona.

With the pic I wanted to invite the reader into the novel, and into Lyrissa's dystopian world and also felts with the setting in the book. I think it has a bit of a mysterious quality that leaves a person wondering. Don't you think so?

I'd love to hear your thoughts....
